There are weddings that just light you up—Katherine & Elijah’s day at Blake Hall in Essex was one of those. A riot of colour, pure joy from start to finish, and so many thoughtful personal touches that made their celebration totally unique to them. If you’re looking for inspiration for a wedding that’s heartfelt, fun and a little bit different, this one’s for you. As a fun UK wedding photographer, I live for days like these. Full of energy, full of connection, and full of the kind of love you feel in every corner of the day.

The ceremony was led by Elijah’s cousin—yes, he was their celebrant! These are my favourite kinds of ceremonies: so personal, so full of meaning and laughter. It felt like them in every way.

Before Katherine made her entrance, the bridal party gathered for a sing-along (Pink Pony Club if you’re curious, the bridesmaid ANTHEM this year) Then, just when guests thought they’d seen it all, the couple threw in a really lovely twist—their rings were hidden under two random chairs in the ceremony. Imagine the surprise as guests discovered they were the unexpected ring bearers!

Their styling was incredible—bold, bright colours everywhere, matching the energy of the day perfectly. We captured the most epic confetti shot just after their “I dos”, complete with the perfect dip kiss.

Drinks in the garden followed, complete with rounds of mini golf and sunshine. Their wedding breakfast had its own twist too—two of their best friends acted as MCs and introduced the meal in full airplane steward-style, a nod to Katherine & Elijah’s two-year honeymoon around the world. How cool is that?

After dinner (and a quick dress change for Katherine!), the Ceili began. I have never seen a wedding party go for it like this one. The venue was electric with energy, laughter, and flailing limbs in the best possible way. Everyone was in the thick of it & gave it their all!

We snuck away for a few minutes during golden hour to wander into the wildflower meadow—just the two of them (and me with my camera). It was quiet, peaceful, and the most beautiful contrast to the buzzing fun of the rest of the day.

And then, the dancefloor. With so many dancers, performers and musicians among their friends and family, it was always going to be wild. And it was.

This wasn’t just one of my favourite weddings because of the colour, the Ceili or the killer dancefloor (although yes to all three!). It was because of Katherine & Elijah. From our first call, to their pre-wedding shoot, to the big day itself—I felt like I was hanging out with friends. Photographing their wedding felt like documenting family, and I’ll never take that for granted.
